Mount

ExtremelyLarge.png

The best thing I ever did to help my astrophotography was to buy a Paramount MX.

Previous mounts included a Celestron NexStar, a Celestron GTX, and a Losmandy G11 Gemini. When I went to the Paramount, however, everything was easier, smoother, better, and more precise. I eventually was able to run 10 minute unguided exposures. This mount has been a joy to use.

I had it loaded near the maximum load with my Edge 11, Homeyer cradle, Tak FSQ106, and 2 large-ish cameras. But, it continues to work flawlessly.

Price (orig Cost): $5000 ($9000, currently costs $12-18000)
Notes:

This is the original MX, not the Version II

It has sat for awhile, so it likely needs replacement of the two rubber drive belts. Here in Arizona I need to replace them every couple of years.

I have the original shipping boxes.

Includes TPoint, a truly magnificent tool. TPoint also handles alignment of the mount to great precision.

Includes 2 large counterweights and the shaft extension. I also added a regular weightlifter's 25 lb weight using a homemade wood adaptor (See Figure 3).

Figure 4 shows the mount with the Edge 11, Homeyer cradle, Takahashi FSQ106, STF8300 camera, QHY683-wsg camera, and Pyxis 2" rotator.
